14 Welfare Policies to Immediately Improve Daily Life in Korea

14 People-Oriented Welfare Policies to Take Effect Immediately

The Ministry of Health and Welfare has announced the immediate implementation of 14 welfare policies designed to alleviate daily inconveniences for citizens. These policies directly address the difficulties people face in their daily lives and prioritize improving access to welfare services. The plan is to maximize policy effectiveness, particularly by strengthening support for vulnerable groups and reducing welfare blind spots.

These newly implemented policies cover various sectors and are expected to bring tangible changes to people's lives. For example, customized support for vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, the elderly, and children will be strengthened. The application process for welfare services will be simplified, allowing more people to benefit. Additionally, welfare information delivery methods will be improved for those with limited information access, and a system will be established to provide rapid support in emergencies.

Expanded Customized Welfare for People with Disabilities and the Elderly

Of particular note among these policies is the expansion of customized welfare for people with disabilities and the elderly. To ensure the mobility rights of people with disabilities, the introduction of low-floor buses will be expanded, and the range of assistive devices supported will be diversified to actively support their participation in society. Furthermore, to promote healthy aging for the elderly, health checkup items will be expanded, and dementia prevention programs will be strengthened to improve their quality of life.

Specifically, for disability activity support services, benefits are scheduled to increase by 18% starting in 2026, and the number of eligible recipients will also be expanded. Additionally, the provision of care services for the elderly will be expanded, and the quality of in-home care services will be improved to support their independent living. These policies will play a crucial role in helping people with disabilities and the elderly live with dignity as members of society.

An official from the Ministry of Health and Welfare stated, “These policies have been carefully prepared, taking into consideration even the smallest inconveniences faced by citizens. We will continue to listen to the voices of the people and strive to provide even better welfare services.”

Improved Access to Welfare Services and Resolution of Blind Spots

Improving access to welfare services and resolving blind spots is also a key goal of this policy. To help those who are unable to receive welfare services due to complex application procedures and lack of information, plans are in place to build an online welfare portal and provide counseling services using an AI chatbot to increase access to welfare information. In addition, outreach welfare counseling will be expanded, and the role of eup, myeon, and dong welfare centers will be strengthened to actively identify and support welfare blind spots.

In particular, for emergency welfare support, the amount of support will be increased, and the scope of eligible recipients will be expanded to provide rapid assistance to those facing sudden crises. Furthermore, support for single-parent families raising minor children will be strengthened, and youth independence support programs will be expanded to support vulnerable children and adolescents in growing up healthy.

  • Establishment of an online welfare portal
  • Provision of AI chatbot counseling services
  • Expansion of outreach welfare counseling
  • Strengthening the role of eup, myeon, and dong welfare centers

Future Prospects and Public Expectations

The 14 welfare policies being implemented are expected to alleviate inconveniences in people's daily lives and improve access to welfare services. In particular, expanding customized support for socially vulnerable groups and resolving welfare blind spots will help create a more inclusive society. However, continuous attention and improvement efforts are needed to maximize the effectiveness of the policies.
