Emergency Support: Geochang County Delivers 'Emergency Food Packs' to Vulnerable

Hope in Times of Crisis: Geochang County's 'Emergency Food Pack' Support

A heartwarming initiative has begun in Geochang County, Gyeongsangnam-do, to support vulnerable groups experiencing food shortages due to sudden crises. The Geochang County Social Welfare Council is preparing and swiftly delivering 'Emergency Food Packs' to those in urgent need, acting as a safety net for the local community. This support goes beyond simply providing supplies; it aims to deliver hope and courage to those facing hardship.

The Emergency Food Packs consist of essential food items necessary for survival for at least three days, including rice, ramen, canned goods, and instant rice. These packs are delivered to households in immediate need due to sudden job loss, illness, or accidents, providing practical assistance to those struggling to secure meals in emergency situations. Priority is given to vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone, households with disabilities, and single-parent families.

The Role of 'Emergency Food Packs' in Supporting Vulnerable Groups

The Emergency Food Pack support program plays a crucial role in resolving welfare blind spots and strengthening the social safety net in the local community, going beyond simple food assistance. Those facing sudden crises experience not only economic difficulties but also significant psychological distress. By providing immediate assistance to those in need, the Emergency Food Packs help them overcome crises and create a foundation for recovery. An official from the Geochang County Social Welfare Council stated, "We prepared the Emergency Food Packs to provide even a small amount of strength to our neighbors facing sudden difficulties. We will continue to promote various projects to enhance the welfare of the local community."

The eligibility criteria for food pack support are as follows:

  • Households facing livelihood difficulties due to sudden job loss, illness, or accidents
  • Low-income households with a recognized income below 75% of the median income
  • Vulnerable groups in urgent need of food assistance

Applications for support can be made through the Geochang County Eup, Myeon, or Dong Administrative Welfare Centers or the Geochang County Social Welfare Council. Food packs are provided immediately upon recognition of the urgent need for support.

Geochang County Social Welfare Council Leading the Way in Promoting Community Welfare

In addition to the Emergency Food Pack support program, the Geochang County Social Welfare Council contributes to the promotion of community welfare through various other welfare projects. It promotes various initiatives such as providing daily necessities, medical expenses, and educational expenses for low-income families, and provides customized welfare services for those in welfare blind spots. In particular, 50 million KRW will be invested in 2024 to promote housing environment improvement projects for low-income families. Furthermore, it is striving to strengthen the welfare capacity of the local community by operating training programs for social welfare facility workers and promoting volunteer activities.

This Emergency Food Pack support is meaningful in that it goes beyond simple material support and delivers hope and courage to neighbors in need. The Geochang County Social Welfare Council will continue to do its best to promote the welfare of the local community.

Continuous Interest and Participation: The Driving Force Behind a Caring Society

The Emergency Food Pack support program is not a one-time event but can be further expanded through continuous interest and participation. The voluntary donations and volunteer activities of local residents increase the sustainability of the Emergency Food Pack project and allow us to extend a warm helping hand to more people. The Geochang County Social Welfare Council will continue to encourage the active participation of local residents and contribute to the promotion of community welfare through transparent and efficient project management. The goal is to expand the food pack support target by 20% by 2025.

The small interest and participation of all of us can come together to create a warmer and happier society. We hope that you will join us in delivering hope to neighbors in need and realizing the value of a community where we live together.
